About

Senior marketing
leadership.
Commercial focus.
No fluff.

I’m Simon Moss, a Chartered Marketer who’s spent 20+ years helping B2B organisations build marketing that pays its way, from SaaS and marketing technology to regulated financial services, membership bodies and events.

Comfortable in the boardroom and just as happy rolling up my sleeves and getting stuck in.

My story

The longer version.

Most of my career has been spent on the client side, leading B2B marketing from the inside. That includes 13 years in email marketing and marketing automation at Spotler and CommuniGator, much of it as Marketing Director, with teams and campaigns running across the UK, the Netherlands and Germany.

I’ve built and led marketing teams across content, design, paid and SEO, owned the budget, and run demand generation that sales actually thanked me for. Programmes I’ve led have generated over 90% of new business and influenced £60m+ in revenue. One physical ABM programme lifted meetings with target accounts by more than 50%, cut the time from opportunity to close by 10% and grew order values by over 15%.

I also put in the systems that keep growth going long after the shiny campaign is over. Strategy, positioning, CRM, automation, events, content. HubSpot, Salesforce, Pardot and Dynamics are all familiar territory, and I’m as comfortable in the boardroom as I am building the email journey.

And I love a stage. I’ve hosted the likes of Seth Godin, Mark Ritson, Dave Chaffey and PR Smith, and run more seminars and webinars than I can count, on email, lead generation, automation, GDPR, copywriting and AI. These days you’ll usually find me talking about email, automation or what people’s brains really think of your marketing.

The transformation

From Simon to MOSTADON

Same brain. More beard. More big picture energy.

Along the way, you’ve got to have some fun and a laugh. Hopefully this gives you a chuckle, and a feel for the kind of personality you get when you work with me.

Drag the slider, or hover over a face, to see how a strategic marketer turns into a woolly Mostadon. Different look. Same focus. Bigger ideas.

The name

Why ? MOSTADON

Why not? The honest answer is that Mostadon has been my Fantasy Football team name for about 15 years. It started because it has Moss in it, which was apparently enough of a reason for me at the time.

Then, when I started thinking about going out on my own, I needed a name. I could have gone with Simon Moss Consulting. Or Simon Moss Marketing. Or Moss Something Something Strategy. All perfectly sensible. Also, a bit boring.

Mostadon already felt like me, it was memorable, and it gave me something much more interesting to build a brand around. So Mostadon was born. Or, more accurately, borrowed from my Fantasy Football team.

The name also gave me the perfect excuse to lean into the mastodon and its considerably hairier relative, the woolly mammoth. Which is how we ended up here. And let’s face it, a giant woolly beast smashing through mountains is a lot more memorable than another picture of someone pointing at a whiteboard.

So there you have it. Moss + mastodon + 15 years of Fantasy Football = Mostadon.

And when my beard is fully grown out, the resemblance is probably closer than I’d like to admit.

One more thing… If your main takeaway from all of this is “How do I get Simon into my Fantasy Football league?”, I respect your priorities. Send me your league code, or join my newly created one. There are no prizes. Just bragging rights. And if I’m winning, you will absolutely hear about it. If I’m not, strangely, the subject may never come up. 😉

Not quite a mammoth. Not quite a mastodon. Definitely a MOSTADON.

Mostadon traits, marketing proof

Built for tough conditions

Mammoths thrived through an ice age. I do my best work when markets are crowded, budgets are tight and the board wants proof.

Never forgets

Twenty plus years of what worked, what didn’t and what the numbers said. You get the lessons without paying for them twice.

Moves the herd

Marketing, sales and leadership heading the same way. At Spotler, lead conversion went from 52% to 70% once everyone was.

Keeps moving

Steady momentum beats a big bang launch that fizzles. Plans that get launched, measured and improved, month after month.

Expertise

A broad marketing skillset, built for growth.

I’m not a strategy only type, and I’m not just a pair of hands either. I’ve done the lot, from building strategy and teams to rolling out campaigns and proving they worked.

Demand generation

Building and executing multi channel campaigns that create pipeline and revenue.

Product marketing

Launching and positioning products in new and existing markets.

Events & exhibitions

Stands, seminars and conferences people actually remember, and that pay their way.

CRM & marketing automation

Systems and data set up properly, so the boring bits run themselves.

Marketing strategy

Plans the board can back and the team can actually run.

Team leadership

Building teams, coaching people and getting the best out of them.

Credentials & recognition

The serious bit.
Proven impact.

The letters after my name, the years behind them and the numbers to back it all up.

Easter eggs

Yes, there are Easter eggs.

I couldn’t resist. Hidden around this site are a few little surprises, just a bit of fun while you’re having a look around.

Some are easier to find than others. If you manage to find more than one, I’d be pretty amazed.

No clues. No prizes. Just bragging rights. Happy hunting.
