MOSTADON mammoth illustration for Fractional CMO

Fractional CMO

Senior marketing leadership without the full time overhead.

Strategic, hands on support to build pipeline, drive revenue and make marketing work harder for your business.

Fractional CMO

Senior leadership, at the level you actually need.

A fractional CMO is an experienced marketing leader who joins your business part time. I sit alongside your leadership team, set the marketing strategy, lead execution and report on what it delivers, for as many hours or days as the business needs.

Unlike a consultant who hands over a report and leaves, I stay in the room. I work with your team, your sales function and any agencies to turn the plan into pipeline, and I’m accountable for the results.

I’ve led marketing for 20+ years, including eight years as Marketing Director of a PE backed SaaS group, where marketing programmes generated over 90% of new business. That’s the experience you get, without a six figure salary, benefits and a notice period.

Why fractional

Why businesses bring in a fractional CMO.

Marketing leadership becomes critical once growth stops being straightforward. This is what changes when you have it.

Clear direction

Marketing priorities set against business goals, so budget goes where it counts.

  • A marketing plan tied to your revenue targets
  • Priorities agreed with the leadership team
  • Budget moved to what’s actually working

Accountability you can measure

KPIs, dashboards and board reporting that connect marketing to pipeline and revenue.

  • A simple monthly dashboard the board understands
  • Pipeline and revenue targets for marketing
  • Honest reporting on what’s working and what isn’t

Sales and marketing pulling together

Shared targets, a shared idea of a good lead and a proper handover.

  • One agreed definition of a qualified lead
  • Clear handover rules and follow up times
  • Regular pipeline reviews with sales

A stronger team

Leadership, coaching and structure for your marketers, and better management of agencies.

  • Clear roles, goals and regular one to ones
  • Coaching that builds skills and confidence
  • Agencies briefed properly and held to account

Support through change

Growth, investment, acquisition or restructure. Steady senior leadership when things move fast.

  • A steady hand through investment, acquisition or restructure
  • Plans that adapt as the business shifts
  • Clear communication with the board and the team

Real flexibility

Scale the time up or down as priorities change. No recruitment process, no long contract.

  • Usually up and running within a week or two
  • Scale the days up or down as you need
  • No recruitment fees or long notice periods

When it’s the right fit

Recognise yourself in a couple of these? Let’s have a chat and I’ll tell you honestly if a fractional CMO is the right move.

Sounds like me

You need senior marketing leadership but aren’t ready for a full time CMO.

Marketing is busy, but pipeline is unpredictable.

Your marketing team needs direction, structure and accountability.

You’re growing fast, raising investment or preparing for exit.

You’ve been through an acquisition and need one joined up marketing plan.

Your marketing leader has left and you need cover while you decide what’s next.

Honest fit check

Is a fractional CMO right for you?

Probably a good fit if…

  • You’re a B2B or SaaS company with something proven to sell
  • Marketing exists, but it needs direction
  • You want strategy and someone who’ll get stuck in
  • Leadership wants marketing tied to revenue
  • Things need to move, and soon

Probably not if…

  • You’re still deciding what the product is
  • You just want someone to post on LinkedIn
  • You want a 70 page strategy and then no action
  • Success is measured in “engagement” and vibes
  • Every decision needs eleven people and three steering committees

Proof it works

Done it before. Happy to again.

FAQ

Questions I get asked a lot.

Straight answers. Anything else, just ask.

What is a fractional CMO?

A senior marketing leader who joins your business part time. You get the strategy, leadership and accountability of a CMO for a set amount of time each month, without hiring one full time.

When should a business bring in a fractional CMO?

Usually when marketing is busy but pipeline is unpredictable, when the team needs senior direction, or when the business is growing, raising investment or changing shape and needs steady leadership quickly.

How is it different from an agency?

An agency delivers what you brief. I own the plan, set the priorities and answer for the commercial results, then work with your team and any agencies to deliver it.

What’s the difference between a fractional CMO and a freelance consultant?

A consultant often delivers a piece of advice or a project and moves on. As your fractional CMO I’m part of the leadership team on an ongoing basis, owning the strategy, leading the work and reporting on the results.

How much time will you spend with us?

It depends on the project and the scope. It could be a couple of hours a week or a few days a week, and we can flex it up or down as priorities change.

What does it cost?

Pricing always depends on the level of involvement, so until we talk, any figure here would only give you a false idea. For context, a full time CMO is well into six figures, usually £120k to £200k+ a year, plus benefits and notice periods. Bringing me on board gives you the same calibre of thinking for a fraction of the cost and commitment.

Can one person cover everything our marketing needs?

I’ll cover the leadership, strategy and a lot of the hands on work myself. Where you need specialist skills, like design, paid media or development, I’ll work with your team or bring in trusted specialists and manage them for you.

What kind of businesses do you work with?

B2B and SaaS businesses: scale ups and challengers, established B2B companies, and leadership teams who want marketing to drive pipeline and revenue.

Are you hands on, or just strategy?

Both. I set the strategy and roll up my sleeves on execution, from campaigns and demand generation to CRM and marketing automation.

How quickly can you start?

Usually within a week or two. Depending on the scope, it could even be the next day. It all starts with a free, no obligation call to see if we’re a good fit.
